I support Tamara Payne-Alex for Moderator.

Why?

-Accountability matters.

There was quite a long period where the conflict between the Board/Moderator and the President dominated this race, although I don’t think that’s the case anymore.  Even before the argument over the consultant got hot and heavy, Tamara had put out a blog post about accountability here: http://tamarapaynealex.com/2013/04/03/monitor-this/  The president is supposed to put out a strategic plan (although I really didn’t like this last one) and I know it can be tricky to get numbers to show how programs are working…but we need some sort of numbers to know how effective things are.  In particular so when staffing decisions ARE made and folks let go, we as a denomination know the rationale for it.

-Transparency matters.

I love that the funding platform she intentionally chose was a fundraising platform where you can see who has donated – yes, you can still be anonymous with it, but still.  We all can see who is funding her and how much – no backroom deals.  And she put up her own budget for running for moderator and her costs.  As someone who doesn’t know what it costs to run for a UUA office like Moderator, I thought it was pretty insightful to read.  And she’s being open, honest, upfront, and transparent with the funding and the spending – and this makes me hopeful that as moderator, she will also be open, honest, upfront, and transparent.

-Experience matters.
Always seek out opinion nonetheless discount viagra online from reliable resources and not those which are talking about all negative things. When it comes to moderator, I just think having prior experience on the UUA Board will help.  Yes, there’s always a good role for the outsider, but the moderator does chair the UUA Board of Trustees, and I personally think it’d help that the moderator have prior experience on that very board.  Tamara has experience as an at large Board rep, and with the entire Board moving to at large positions, I think that’ll help in this period of national transition for the Board.

-Youth and Young Adults Matter.

I’m not going to say I like Tamara better because she grew up UU – I didn’t, and I can totally identify with what Key says on how he found UUism.  But from reading Tamara’s blog to seeing her answers in online forums to personal communication, she just gets it.  She gets how to best work with youth and young adults – not just partnering with us but inviting us inside the leadership circle.  And it’s not just what programs will work best for youth and young adults – it’s about denominational culture.

-Generational Dynamics Matter.

And finally, I wouldn’t be honest with myself if I didn’t talk about how it is time for a new generation of leadership at the UUA.  It’s time we pass denominational leadership off to the Boomers (so they can keep the seats warm for us Millennials 😉 )

So, with all that said, I hope you’ll consider voting for Tamara with me.  Now, if Key wins, I’m quite sure he will also do a great job.  But I think Tamara just has that extra something, and is the right leader for the right time.  Tamara for Tomorrow.
